Time is my only enemy

I figured out why lightbox wasn’t working right. Turns out you need to use the right letters in the link. Who’d have thought?

For your reward, here’s a nice picture of Senjyogara-chan from Bakemonogatari holding a sliding razor in your mouth!

I’m so far behind on CSS and HTML convention that my head is exploding just looking at modern stylesheets.

Someone remind me to update this to 2.8.2 tomorrow.

Oddly fitting title.

I just rebuilt my entire category and tag system to make a bit more sense in general. There’s no real sense in having duplicates, and I was basically just using categories like tags, so I broke down to actual general categories and made tags for the rest. It might work, it might not.

I’m pretty impressed with how far Wordpress has come since I originally used it. Lots of nice tools, a great backend and a robust theme and plugin system. All very easy to deal with.

Now if I could find an image pop-up script that doesn’t cost anything, that would be neat. I wonder if I could use thickbox on the front end since the back end uses it for various things.

Sometimes you just get these silly scenes in a show that really make you wonder.

Deadly Invitation

“Have you ever seen a man decapitated by a party invitation?”

It’s sort of weird to be listening to an anime OST and then hear a song that starts a lot like Parano- wait, it is. The end theme for Ergo Proxy was Paranoid Android. Word.

But today I will talk a little about K-On!, and there will be spoilers. I recently talked about how great Mio’s character CD was, and still is. I was a little disappointed to see that she doesn’t turn out to be the vocalist. Mostly.

As far as highschool slice-of-life comedies go, it was pretty good. The characters were all likable, the humor was well done, and the plot wasn’t overly pretentious nor was it weak. I appreciated the fact that they did their homework concerning the instruments and equipment and drew them properly. And I’m a sucker for that silly face humor.

But at the end of the day, I can only rate the series as average. I expected more from the show (and would be much pleased with a second season to see what the band can do) and was disappointed with the lackluster, anti-climactic ending.

Though Mio is probably still my favorite character, Sawa-chan, their faculty advisor, is actually a pretty close second. She adds some needed craziness to the second half of the series as the show becomes somewhat normal otherwise.

I was also sad that it seems that their outfits in the end theme are just for that particular bit. And don’t immediately understand the purpose of the beginning of the end video reel where they’re obviously topless. Random silly sex appeal? Meh.

I would say the show is worth watching for the comedy value at least. The music in the show itself is uninspiring, though there’s Mio’s character CD in the peripheral merchandise. There’s no pantsu or other ecchi to detract from the lighthearded humor (though there are two swimsuit episodes).

I hope to see more K-On! in the future, but I also hope it will have a nice climactic ending where they play music that isn’t blah. Like the talent show episode of Suzumiya.

Heard during combat with Stalin of Russia this evening upon Dwip’s recapturing of one of his cities: How do you like that, you pestilent cockmaggot?

This game rocks.

To whom it may concern, there is a beta version of CCCP that will work with Windows 7 when using Media Player Classic. It still does not seem to load vsfilter properly, but it allows the use of the internal renderer if you use either EVR Custom Preset or Haali’s renderer output modes. This makes me happy.

They said not to spam the link on the their forums, so you’ll have to drop a google search if you’re interested.

Dwip and I battled our way to another victory just now. One turn from our space race victory, he nuked Pacal II. I giggled. Peter also demanded I give him fascism towards the end. I thought that was funny so I did.

The thing about playing a game of Civ with Dwip is you can pretty much guarantee that even when you’re not at war, his shortest turn will take him 10 minutes. This gives me plenty of time to do other things while he’s doing whatever voodoo he does do. Tonight it meant that I finally got around to straightening out my room after the disaster explosion of computer parts and furniture from last night’s epic triple monitor system building fracas. Fracas is a cool word.

So we played for like 10 hours and it took me about six of that to finish the room. It’s amazing how much large the room is when it’s not filled with stuff. Almost makes me wish I had more computers to fill it with.

Anyhow, this looks slightly better when cleaned.

As you can see, the cable spaghetti is still a disaster, but I’ll be working on that tomorrow. I think I’ve had the other desk for most of my adult life. It just refuses to leave me no matter where I go. The Mozart and Beethoven CDs have been around only slightly less long.

I’m thinking I should repaint the room this fall. I know, I know, the peach/green combo is unparalleled in visual satisfaction, but you know, it’s time for a change. I am thinking I’ll go with a nice dark earth tone, probably a dark blue. Not sure what I’ll do for trim and the window sills. Maybe a nice violent fire.

As a side note, I’d like to mention that the K-On! soundtrack is quite fun to listen to and that the Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei soundtrack is still also entertaining.

As another side note, libdrop + foobar = no more iTunes. I figured out how to make playlists on the iPod now, so everything is super spiffy fabulous. I love the open source community. Give them enough time and they could write a program to live your life for you. Kind of like Blizzard, but Blizzard makes you pay them for it.

Speaking of Blizzard, hurry it up with Starcraft II!

So after some epic battling with Shaka and his evil minions – well, it was more Dwip battling Shaka, I was poking Brennus with some motorized infantry – we started a new game, but Dwip has a weak constitution and can’t take playing for 10 hours straight or something. Then I came up with the idea that I should have more monitors. Because who doesn’t like more monitors? And I said “I’m gonna do something epic.” So then I did.

Oh yes, three monitors on the same machine. I did run into a small problem during the build process. For some reason, when both cards were in and running, the BIOS refused to see the X1900XT, though it had power and the fan was spinning like mad (it’s damn loud, too). So after looking through the BIOS, looking through the manual, bothering Samson and cursing a little, I tried switching the cards to opposite slots. Suddenly it worked (ATi, you just plain do strange things). And now I have epic desktop real estate.

I’m running the middle monitor on the 8800GT and the outers on the X1900XT. I can still game and now I can have two separate screens for other stuff, like browsing the internet and chatting on IRC at the same time. While I’m healing a raid boss fight. I can do that because I’m awesome.

I also got tickets to see Chicago in September. It should be cool.

Though I’ve been acquiring more anime theme stuff, I haven’t found anything that has removed my addiction to Mio’s CD yet. Fortunately for you, this means no rambling about it.

I did find a new show that appears to be airing now though. Umi Monogatari, which means “sea story.” You can read the synopsis if you care that much. So far it has cute girls, funny characters, and what might be a halfway decent plot, though I’m not going to make any bets on that. I just like the faces they make, it’s cute.

Yay, someone translated Kimi to Deatte ni Nen Sugoshita Watashi ga Bimyou ni Kawatta Riyuu for me. Roughly, the reason I’ve strangely changed after meeting and spending two years together with you. Thanks IOSYS, I had about half of that, but never would have put it together right.
